As a functional movement Practitioner, and lifestyle relationships coach the focus I have is on integration to inspire inside motivation for action. The difference in this focus of attention is self-actualizing through inside learning behaviours. It isn’t a focus of attention on outside strategies until there is an inner inspired connection, even if it begins with imagination as described in the following simple recipe experience below. At the end of this article I share information on this lifestyle area topic that is a program at the learning center I have founded, Inside Awareness Center for Integrative Somatic Learning. The awareness practices that I have been developing has the intention to develop inner resources, versus looking outside for the answers. One develops intuition while the other deepens a pattern of seeking outside answers that I have found reduces inner confidence in one’s abilities and inner support response.

Conditioned responses versus integrated somatic function

As one ages, they may experience reduced cognitive abilities and may not be agile enough to continue with a focus on solutions that society has socially conditioned us as a pattern in our behaviour. This social conditioning has led to a dominant behaviour pattern that is a filter of thinking. Thinking that has been developed through outside sources versus inside somatic awareness. Learning through inside somatic awareness is the first pattern of learning one is born with that enables one to walk, think and communicate. A baby is not taught through institutionalized education. A baby mimics what is going on around them. This is integrated through functional behaviour and can continue being accessible after one experiences the loss of cognitive function. I write this based upon my experience of mentoring an aging population through functional integration techniques, where I provide the reassurance of letting go of formalized left-brain activities as they become the obstacle and teach them to respond from a right-brain perspective.  An example I have come across that would be easy to understand is in cooking. It is the difference in those who seek out recipes first, make a list of the ingredients, shop for the items and then create the recipes exactly as the recipe states. As one ages, these patterns become bigger and bigger challenges. I witness them when they have gone beyond their windows of tolerance. They lose the ability to follow the instructions and become confused. This increases stress and heightens obstacles. as they become agitated if the person changes the pattern in the recipe instructions that have become repetitive for them. What is missing is spontaneous flexibility. This level of irritation can extend to anyone helping to create this recipe. As they become agitated if the person goes off their expected way of facilitating the recipe instructions. What is missing is spontaneous flexibility.

I have had some success introducing a somatic integrative approach after engaging in an experience of sympathetic touch, listening, or dialogue. The key has been to calm the environmental stimulus and introduce functional somatic-focused behaviours to decrease agitation and calm emotions. The approach begins with reassurance, followed by using patterns for learning through guided actions rather than giving instructions or steps. This begins with starting where you are by exploring with curiosity instead of a system that is focused on goals. In this example, it would be the food that is in one’s pantry and being versatile with it. The intention is to activate the imagination and be creative to tap into the somatic senses. The somatic senses are sight, sound, touch, taste and smell. These senses are the origins of stimulating function, or not. The somatic approach I use to cultivate awareness in learning is to stimulate life and options to bring energy back into one’s responsive reactions. The focus is functional learning as the level of behavioural response to balance the organizational cognitive brain function approach, not replace it. Increasing the somatic function can improve and expand the experience.

I am the founder of Inside Awareness Center for Integrative Somatic Learning. The template of the 9 lifestyle areas is intended as a point of focus in the education programs I have intentionally explored and offer. A balanced life experience would have some conscious recognition of the interplay between these life areas. All educational programs of the Center for Learning integrate this interplay between them. It is modelled on the potential for having an experience of a well-lived life. The programs, like life, are adaptable to singles, couples, families, groups, work and in organizations.

Support Somatic Learning Development for choice in social conditioning experiences to create healthier lifestyles at home and globally

For transparency I have begun posting a link to my paypal for those inspired by my posts that have been for learning purposes. I am not sponsored other than by myself at this time. My focus has been on the development of an interconnected and integrated system that is apparent in all my efforts shared. The focus of this body of work is on somatic connections that is completely misunderstood by most. The mainstream focus talks at it with strategies in mind while my focus is on the practical aspects of living it. It matters in understanding how to support somatic empathic children from early childhood and shifting a social conditioning that could benefit from more from this focus of learning and understanding. This focus is on a well functioning body, improved relationships and communication, and connections to food, nature and environment to support healthier social and cultural conditioning. If you would like to buy me a coffee or support this effort for further development please go to paypal.me/reenelindstrom – you will notice Renee is spelled Reene on this link – that is me, it is not a mistake. You will see this link on my Youtube Channel and educational web materials, fyi.
